Making Sigma Click: Introducing Our Refreshed Interface

At Sigma, our mission has always been clear: We want everyone, regardless of technical expertise, to feel empowered to uncover insights and make smarter decisions with data. Over the years, Sigma has added more and more features—but we’ve never changed the UI. To maintain the same accessibility we initially imagined, we knew it was time for a new look—one that matches the power of our platform while being easier and more engaging to use.

Defining the principles behind our redesign

We took a step back and asked ourselves: “What does good design really mean at Sigma?” Through workshops, user interviews, and iterations on our design, we landed on five principles that guide our new direction:

Principle #1: Focus on what matters, remove clutter

When you’re exploring massive datasets, distractions hinder clarity. By stripping away unnecessary elements, we help you lock in on the insights that really count.

Principle #2: Balance flexibility with great outcomes

We want both seasoned analysts and brand-new users to feel at home in Sigma. With a few guardrails in place, you’re free to tailor the platform without worrying about costly mistakes.

Principle #3: Unfold complexity gradually

No one wants to be buried under advanced features from the get-go. We’re rolling out capabilities in a way that lets you start with the basics and discover deeper functionality as you build confidence.

Principle #4: Encourage direct data manipulation

Exploring data often means experimenting. Sigma makes it straightforward to dive in, try different approaches, and learn from every click—no coding background necessary.

Principle #5: Optimize for information density

We believe in putting the right amount of data in front of you without overwhelming your screen. By refining layout and spacing, we aim to deliver more substance with less noise.

Continually lowering the barrier to entry

Sigma has always delivered powerful ways to explore and analyze data, and we’ve heard from customers just how effective it can be. At the same time, we recognized that a more intuitive experience would benefit both new and seasoned users alike. Our redesign focuses on making Sigma welcoming from day one—whether you’re creating your first Workbook or diving into advanced analysis—while still providing all the depth our longtime users value.

What’s new in the redesign

Here’s a quick overview of the updates we’re rolling out:

A streamlined workbook header

We’ve combined essential actions—such as saving, commenting, and sharing—into one spot. No more clicking around to find what you need.

Simpler custom views

Previously known as “Explore,” these views are now easier to create and customize. You can save them, share them, or discard changes and return to the original Workbook anytime.

A refined editor panel

Properties, formatting options, and actions are now neatly organized into tabs, so you can make quick adjustments without feeling lost.

A new ‘add element’ bar

Insert charts, tables, and other elements on the fly. It’s all about making sure inspiration doesn’t have to wait.

Sigma’s redesign sharpens the experience without sacrificing power. A cleaner UI, smarter workflows, and a more intuitive flow mean you can move faster, focus on what matters, and get to insights without distractions. Whether you’re deep into analysis or just getting started, Sigma stays flexible and responsive to your needs.
